As a radical 76 year old Lesbian, I have been out since 1968 where I "fell in love" with the woman in the next dorm room at Oregon State University....and all the puzzle pieces fit together. At that time I was put on social probation for being a Lesbian, I later dropped out and she and I toured the U.S. on our own, in our 1965 ford pickup with a camper on the back and two dogs, that was 1970. a few years later back in Portland OR we helped start the first group of Lesbians, cross dressers and gay men to speak out for our rights, we met at Darcels' We were coming out in an era where butches were butches and fems were fems. No one tried to make us anything different except, we as feminists, did not want to be trapped in hetero patriarchal roles that were part of the Lesbian Culture before the social revolution of the late 60's. We were Lesbians, we rejected the term Gay, that was for men. Later we were engineered to reject Lesbian, as too defining, too limiting, ("we don't like labels, was the cry") i watched as, the Oregon college's women's rights classes, become "queer" rights classes. We were engineered to stop speaking out for women...it was awful...We had tried to create women only spaces at the colleges. Those spaces lasted about 2 seconds. In the gay scene, we had transvestitism, otherwise known as cross-dressers (no surgery, which by the way was very limited, and had enormous scrutiny and counselling.) "Transgenders" had undergone surgery, which btw was very different than cross-dressing. I did not know any woman having surgery, only men .The men i knew who were seeking surgery, were very inward and humble, very different from the warrior engineered trans now, (absolutely engineered by the larger cult of wanting to normalize and legalize sex with children which is the end game. Tomboys unite against transiitioning. We want the "L" out of the alphabet soup!
